Home-School Connection

Working together as a team can help your child get more out of the school year.  Below are some suggestions of things you can do at home to build on what we are doing in the classroom.  With your help, we can make this year wonderful for your child, and help them become lifelong learners.  Thanks!

  • Read at least 1 story a day to your child. Ask questions about the story.
  • Return the Home Reading Calendar each month.
  • Talk about where you are going and what you will do when you get there.
  • Get your child a public library card and show him/her how to check out books.
  • Read all notes, flyers, etc. that your child brings home from school and talk to your child about school events.
  • Attend parent conferences to find out about your child’s progress.
  • Talk about what happened in school each day.
  • Talk about the importance of behaving and trying hard in school.
  • Have your child attend school every day possible, and send a note if he/she must be absent.
  • Set goals for your child’s learning. As they accomplish each goal, celebrate it and then set a new goal to encourage your child to keep learning.
  • Reinforce what we are learning in the classroom (shapes, counting, letters, etc.).
  • Provide opportunities for your child to practice writing.
  • Encourage your child to look at books or do other activities instead of watching television or using electronic devices.
  • Provide nourishing meals and ensure that your child gets enough sleep each night.
  • Help your child develop oral language skills by encouraging complete sentences and modeling vocabulary words.
  • Provide encouragement and excitement about your child’s learning!
  • Keep teachers informed of changes at home that could affect your child’s learning.  Also, be sure to keep your contact information up to date!  You can update your information here.

You can also visit the Current Unit/Classroom Learning page for information about the specific skills we are working on in the classroom!
